We are committed to making changes to our business that continue to protect and restore our natural world while also creating resiliency in ourselves as that world become more chaotic and unpredictable. Some examples of our initiatives are:

Decarbonization

One of the most critical issues we face today is the threat of climate change and the first step in addressing the impacts is to stop polluting. Carbon is built into every facet of modern life and is difficult to break free from. How we farm, the energy we use, the material we extract from the earth and eventually throw away all have a carbon price. By using compostable plastics and building a plan to completely eliminate petroplastics from our supply chain, purchasing local goods and materials whenever possible, and electrifying our operations are all steps in ending our dependence on fossil plastics.

Local, Seasonal Food Systems

We believe food is medicine and the basis of good health. This begins at the farm level with the practices that keep food clean and nutritious. We work with a variety of local growers and makers to get real food from as close as we can get it. Be it our dairy from Autumnwood Farm in Forest Lake, MN or our produce from California Street Farm half a mile from our shop in Northeast Minneapolis, food is better when it is grown with care. Environmental Restoration

Once last major area of investment we look at is the protection and restoration of natural environments around the globe as well as in our backyard. More and more pressure is put on the environments that sustain us as global consumption rises, requiring we activate capital to stave off the threat of development. Walden is committed to donating 1% of revenues to local and global NGOs that work to protect natural environments as well as restore degraded lands and waters to create a healthier world that we rely on.fOurs
